‘ Exciting ‘ West Bromwich Choir Leader Job Appeal 2026

TPSC West Bromwich at rehearsal

The People’s Show Choir (TPSC) is searching for a new choir leader to conduct singers in West Bromwich – but with special skills that enable the choir “feel something”.

Bosses of the UK-wide community choir say they are looking for more than just musical prowess and conducting expertise. They are desperately seeking someone who can also create a nurturing community in the long term.

The job vacancy for TPSC West Bromwich choir leader has emerged after the long-standing conductor Charlotte Champneys decided not to return from maternity leave and celebrating the birth of her baby.

Community Engagement Manager for TPSC, Chris Weber, has stepped in to cover the Wednesday night rehearsals at All Saints Parish Church in West Bromwich for the current term while the hunt is on for a new choir leader. The plan is for the new starter to take charge of the group from September 2026.

TPSC is appealing for people with unique skills that fit the bill to apply for the role by the deadline of Sunday May 18, 2026.

Chris Weber (pictured above) explained: “We are looking for someone with specific skills. They don’t need to be trained to a professional standard but should be able to teach confidently.

“While musical skill is important, the choir leader needs to understand and embody the philosophy that the community comes first and the music second.

“We’re not looking for someone to just come and conduct a choir amazingly well. Our choir leaders at TPSC are a little like party hosts. They host an evening each week that people really look forward to coming to.”

The job advert highlights how leading the established choir in the Black Country may not be a role for everyone.

It explains how people don’t just come to sing, but to “feel something”, adding: “The best sound comes after the room is full of energy, trust and connection.”

The ideal candidate will be able to “bring energy into a room even when it’s not there yet”.

Chris is an experienced hand in leading amateur community choirs, including TPSC’s Sutton Coldfield branch – the largest choir in its fold.

“If you create the community space where people feel they belong, so they are comfortable and confident enough to give it a go, the music will follow,” added Chris.

“Experience is always beneficial as someone who has never conducted a choir before will struggle, but it’s more than just about musical ability.

“What we need in West Bromwich is someone who can continue creating a sense of community to bring people together.”

Skills a TPSC choir leader needs

The choir leader job involves being “approachable, encouraging and emotionally intelligent”.

TPSC is searching for someone who can allow singers to “let go, have fun and be themselves” during the weekly rehearsals and can create a welcoming environment full of warmth and humour.
