The People’s Show Choir embarked on a Summer Show Choir Mini-Tour, launching in Coventry!
This year, choir members from Halesowen, Sutton Coldfield, Leamington Spa and Brackley came together Saturday 3rd August outside the Lady Godiva Statue at Broadgate in Coventry where they sang a wide range of empowering and uplifting songs from film and musical shows such as The Greatest Showman, Phantom of the Opera, Wizard of Oz, ‘I See The Light’ from Tangled and ‘May It Be’ from Lord of the Rings. Georgie Rees from Leamington Spa Show Choir was Choir Leader for the entire day.
The West Midlands City was the first of four mini-tour destinations that will be visited by The People’s Show Choir as a way to entice new members to the newest addition to the fold. They performed throughout midday with a second performance at 2pm.
For the first Mini Tour destination, it was a chance for many Show Choir Members who were there to have a very fun day out with others from different regions.
Choir Leader Georgie Rees, “They were brilliant! A fabulous way to spend a day!”
Shirley from Sutton Coldfield said of her experience, “[It was] great fun in Coventry! The People’s Show Choir is my happy place, full of wonderful uplifting singing, laughter and friendship.”
When asked why she continues to enjoy The People’s Show Choir, Annie said, “The choir is everything to me – the joy and therapy of singing, the fun, friendship and support of an ever expanding family of friends and our charismatic, talented and caring leaders.”
When asked about singing with other people, Marion Daniels said, “[Being part of the Show Choir] is not just about singing…There is a huge sense of everyone looking out for each other and new friendships forged!
The massed choir events are an utter joy and the camaraderie on trips and at concerts is second to none.”
After Coventry, the Mini-Tour will continue on around the UK during Saturdays throughout August. They continue to Malvern, Weston-Super-Mare and finishing with York.
Georgie will be leading the new Coventry Show Choir with its first ever rehearsal on Tuesday 17th September 2024 at Cheylesmore Community Centre, 111 Arundel Road, Coventry, CV3 5JL. Rehearsals start at 7:45pm to 9:15pm, with 2 free weeks for any newcomer wanting to have their first experience of being in The People’s Show Choir.
