Jo Leighton

Choir Leader for The People's Show Choir Cardiff & Newport

Jo is an enthusiastic conductor and music educator with over 15 years of experience. She holds a music degree from Royal Holloway, University of London, where she studied conducting under the tutelage of Rupert Gough. Her vocal experience includes singing soprano with Welsh Voices, BBC National Chorus of Wales, Melody Makers Quartet, Riverside Opera and performing on TalkSport Radio and Radio Wales. Her conducting career began 15 years ago with the Kings Church Choir in Durham. She later served as the musical director of St Mary's Church in Stoke Bishop, Bristol, for six years. During this time, Jo also worked for Bristol Plays Music, founded her own music teaching business, and conducted the choir at All Saints' Church in Long Ashton. She has conducted at fabulous venues like Bristol Cathedral, and been honoured to lead a performance for the Queen’s jubilee. Now based in Newport, Jo loves being a choir leader for the People's Show Choir, leading both the Newport and Cardiff choirs. She looks forward to sharing her love of music with you at a rehearsal!
