Jenny Armitage

Conductor of The Rusty Player's Orchestra Barry Island

Jenny is a musician from Poole with both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in music, from the University of Chichester and Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama respectively, who is currently working as a music tutor at Glamorgan Music School in Barry. She has been playing the trumpet since the age of 7 and, over the course of her musical tuition, has expanded this to include the cornet, flugelhorn and, most recently, the Renaissance/Baroque cornett. Jenny has a plethora of experience as a performer in a variety of ensembles. She was part of three trips made by multiple university ensembles to record at the prestigious Abbey Road Studios and attended three years of the UniBrass competition with the university Brass Band, culminating in the band winning the 2019 Shield section. One of her most recent musical accomplishments includes participating in a tour to Cambridge in July 2021 with the Early Music Ensemble from RWCMD and the Chamber Choir from Girton College, during which time both groups recorded a CD with the internationally acclaimed bass choral singer and soloist, Adrian Peacock (due to be released soon!). Jenny is also an aspiring orchestral conductor, having taken up the baton in her first year at Chichester and quickly developing a deep love for the practice. She has attended two years of the world-renowned George Hurst Conductor's Course at Sherborne Summer School of Music, an experience which not only strengthened her abilities profoundly but showed her the true extent of the joy that it brings her.
