Alex Winberg
Conductor of The Rusty Player's Orchestra Barry Island
Alex began conducting the Rusty Player's Orchestra of Barry Island in 2025. After coming to Wales from Sweden in 2013 for an exchange year he never left, studying musicology, composition, and conducting at Bangor University from 2015 to 2019. He's a tenor and plays the trumpet.
Alex's analytical studies into the works of Swedish composer Wilhelm Stenhammar earned him the Phillip Pascal Memorial Prize and the Parry Williams Prize for Academic Excellence. At Bangor, he also conducted the Music Society Orchestra and was the Assistant Director of the University Chorus. Some of his favourite memories from this time include conducting music from West Side Story and Skyrim , as well co-directing a full performance of Bach's St. Matthew Passion.
When he's not wildly waving a stick about, Alex is a frequent cinema-goer and a voracious reader of fantasy and science-fiction. He also has a great love for cooking.
