SOCIAL IMPACT

THAT STARTS WITH A NOT AND CHANGES LIVES

Beyond the Music: Community, Grants and Real‑World Support

We did something different: instead of asking people to fit into the world of classical music, we rebuilt it around them. By mixing big, cinematic performances with everyday welcome, we’ve turned rehearsals into lifelines, concerts into catalysts, and community music into a powerful way for people to find friends, confidence and real support when life is hard.

MUSIC THAT LIFTS PEOPLE UP, CHANGES LIVES AND GIVE HOPE WHEN IT’S NEEDED MOST

We believe that music is just the beginning: our orchestras and choirs give people a place to belong, while our free programmes help them untangle money worries, navigate the benefits system and move into paid work. From unlocking hundreds of thousands of pounds in vital household income to helping thousands find jobs, confidence and connection, every rehearsal, performance and act of support adds up to a lifeline for people in crisis – and your support helps make the next success story possible.

POSITIVE FUTURES

Positive Futures is TPO’s free employability programme that helps people move from feeling stuck to moving forward, with structured placements, coaching, networks and practical, one‑to‑one guidance. More than 2,500 people have already moved into paid work through the programme, and each year around 80 people receive tailored support to build confidence, skills and a clear route into sustainable employment.

BAC

TPO offers free, out or hours, confidential financial wellbeing and benefits guidance to help people understand what they’re entitled to and make the most of their income, so life feels less overwhelming. This support helps around 50 additional people each year to successfully navigate the system, unlocking an estimated £368,000 in vital household income annually for those in crisis.

COMMUNITY GRANTS

Our Community Grants turn the small, steady generosity of our music groups into quick, practical help for local people facing real‑life challenges, with grants of around £50–£500 for essentials, emergencies or access to community life. Powered by the TPO Community Lottery and simple fundraising by our members, the fund quietly backs neighbours, carers and volunteers with support that can cover bills, crisis costs, mobility aids or the chance to join a musical or community activity.

COMMUNITY MUSIC

Week in, week out, our orchestras, choirs and bands give people a place to belong, make friends and grow in confidence, bringing together teens to seniors from every background to share the joy of music-making. Members talk about life-changing moments – from performing on stage for the first time to finding a community that lifts their mental health and skills – turning rehearsals and concerts into real social connection and hope.

Alongside the music itself, TPO’s groups quietly hold people up at some of the toughest points in their lives, offering routine, friendship and a reason to get out of the house when everything else feels uncertain. Members describe rediscovering confidence after illness, bereavement or redundancy, finding their voice on stage and off, and feeling part of a caring community that believes in them and their potential.

THE POWER OF YOUR SUPPORT

Every contribution creates tangible impact:

• £30: Brings friendship and purpose to a lonely older adult.
• £70: Keeps a struggling family warm and fed for a year.
• £100: Provides choir places for those battling isolation.
• £250: Boosts a young person’s confidence and creativity.
• £450: Opens the door to secure, paid employment for vulnerable adults

OUR COMMITMENT TO CONTINUOUS IMPACT

With partners, funders, and public support, we expand our reach every year—building a society where every person can thrive, empowered by music and united by social impact. Join us, and help amplify the life-changing power of music, connection, and hope across the UK
