Movie magic for special Birmingham Mother’s Day concert

An entertaining Mother’s Day concert is taking place in Birmingham featuring a soundtrack from some of the most famous films.

The city’s spectacular Symphony Hall will provide a backdrop to the one-off event – and tickets are now on sale.

The People’s Orchestra and People’s Show Choirs are teaming up to perform the ‘Back to the Movies’ show from 3pm to 5.30pm on Sunday March 30 – Mother’s Day 2025.

It’s a way to celebrate Mothering Sunday in an unusual and entertaining way with mums – especially those who love films and the cinemas. During the concert, the audience will hear some of the most famous and familiar film tracks, old and new, at the world famous concert hall.

Included in the charity concert’s line-up is music from Bridget Jones Diary along with Back to the Future. There’s also tunes from older films including from Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines.

Amy Marshall, spokesperson for the The People’s Orchestra Charity, said: “Our ensembles will take to the Symphony Hall stage for a massed orchestra and choir performance like no other.

“It celebrates the timeless power of film music, so there will be plenty to recognise during the show.

“Join us for an afternoon treat of your favourite classic film themes and make Mother’s Day truly unforgettable.”

The concert will star members of The People’s Orchestra and singers from The People’s Show Choirs, who all have a passion for music in their own time. They will come from across the Midlands and further afield, as far away as Scotland, York and London to perform at Birmingham Symphony Hall.

Members performing, who are from all walks of life and ages, include musicians and singers from Bearwood to the Black Isle and South Birmingham, to Weston-super-Mare. They will be conducted by Saphran Ali and Ula Weber.

Tickets for The Back to the Movies Mother’s Day Concert cost between £21 and £28, with a £3 reduction for concessions. Visit Bmusic website here for more information and tickets.
