High-profile Summer events for The People’s Orchestra and Show Choirs
It’s heartening to see that as the reputation of The People’s Orchestra and The People’s Show Choirs(TPSC) grows, we are landing performance spots at more and more high-profile events. This Summer that ranges from WW2 celebrations to internationally-renowned Comic Con and even a seaside pier.
Among the dazzling line-up in coming months our singers will be at the centre of special VE Day celebrations, marking 80 years since the Second World War ended in Europe.
TPSC Malvern, led by Mark Aitchison, have the honour of performing songs including What a Wonderful World to All That Jazz at Victoria Park in the Worcestershire beauty spot on this poignant day.
The group is performing at the official VE Day celebrations organised by Malvern Town Council, which are expected to attract thousands of people on Saturday May 10 and you can find out more here.
Over in Wales on the same day, TPSC Newport has earned a place, centre stage, at the People of the Place Exhibition.
They are singing in celebration of everyone involved with The Place – a community art space in the heart of Newport. Visitors on May 10 will hear them fill the centre with songs including Hushabye Mountain and Just Give Me a Reason in a performance led by Joanna Leighton. See more here.
TPSC Shrewsbury, led by Lorna Parkhouse, will be going wild as they perform during an ‘Animal Family’ day at the British Ironwork Centre on May 17. Visitors can get up close to snakes and spiders at the Shropshire tourist attraction in Oswestry, which is filled with unique sculptures including the renowned Knife Angel statue. Read more here.
Let’s not forget the highly-anticipated Scottish Highlands Tour for musicians and singers across The People’s Orchestra, Rusty Player’s Orchestras and TPSCs that’s coming soon. It will culminate in a performance within historic Inverness Cathedral on Sunday May 25.
TPSC Black Isle members in Scotland are looking forward to welcoming colleagues to their patch. Those journeying to Inverness have been avidly practising movie songs from Mary Poppins to Grease, ready for the concert and we’re sure they’ll sound heavenly. See more here.
Renowned Cheltenham Food & Drink Festival is bringing back The People’s Show Choir to perform to visitors on Sunday June 22. Perhaps tune Food, Glorious Food should be on the set list when Mark Aitchison leads singers from TPSCs from Cheltenham, Malvern and Weston-super-Mare at this glamorous event. Read more here.
Sci-fi and gaming fans will know how popular Comic Con Midlands is during its annual Birmingham stop-off. The People’s Orchestra led by conductor Saphran Ali will be there this year, performing on Saturday July 12 at the famous event overflowing with comics, cosplay and Star Wars. Getting into the festival spirit is TPSC South Birmingham. Led by Liz Read, they will be singing al fresco at the CoCoMAD Festival at Cotteridge Park in Birmingham on Saturday July 5. See more details here, especially if you want to go along to watch and cheer them on.
Another outside gig is in the beautiful surroundings of Walsall Arboretum. It’s the stunning backdrop for a performance by The Rusty Player’s Orchestras for the Black Country and South Birmingham on July 20. Read more about the event conducted by Julian Powell here.
Yet when it comes to the most exciting Summer venue, TPSC Weston-super-Mare have it in the bag, performing to holidaymakers on Birnbeck Pier at the seaside resort on August 3. Read more here.
Flying high is TPSC Shrewsbury, who are performing again at the glorious Oswestry Balloon Festival at Cae Glas Park on Saturday August 16. Their voices will ring out amongst a stunning view of hot air balloons at the family event raising money for Nightingale House Hospice. Read more here.
