WHAT TO EXPECT AT YOUR FIRST SESSION
If you’re feeling nervous, you’re not alone. Here’s how a typical session flows:
Arrive & get welcomed
We’ll greet you, show you where to stand, and help you feel comfortable. No awkward spotlight moments.
Warm-up (easy, fun, no pressure)
A short guided warm-up to wake up your voice and get everyone relaxed.
Learn the song in chunks
We build it step-by-step, repeating as needed. You can join in straight away — or ease in quietly until you’re ready.
Harmonies made simple
If we split into parts, you’ll be clearly guided. You don’t need to “find your harmony” alone — we’ll help.
Break & chat
A proper breather and a chance to say hello to the people around you.
Leave with a plan
We’ll share the next rehearsal details and how to book your second free session. You only join if it feels right.
MUSIC YOU ACTUALLY WANT TO SING
Think uplifting favourites you recognise — pop anthems, film and TV moments, musical theatre classics, and the kind of songs that make you smile on the way home. Repertoire varies by choir and season, but you can expect a mix of:
Pop anthems you can’t help but sing | Musical theatre favourites | Film & TV feel-goods | Seasonal specials | Crowd-pleasers (plus the occasional surprise)
WHY PEOPLE JOIN – AND WHY THEY STAY
You’ll feel welcome fast
You don’t have to “know someone” to come along. We’ll help you settle in and feel part of it from day one.
Confidence grows naturally
We learn in a supportive way, with clear guidance. You’ll improve without even realising you’re doing it.
You’ll leave feeling lighter
Singing together has a way of lifting your mood — and giving your week something to look forward to.
Across the UK, hundreds of people gather every week not just to sing, but to heal, laugh, and connect. From carers to NHS workers, from new mums to retirees, our members say the same thing: “I was lonely. Now I have a choir family.”

What our members say
Real voices. Real friendships

I was looking for a high-standard community-based orchestra for the chance to meet new people and share my love of music. The People’s Orchestra definitely fit the bill! I have made friends for life, had the opportunity to play fantastic and have been part of unique and exciting projects.

The People’s Orchestra epitomises genuine equality of opportunity, whereby musicians from every socio-economic and ethnic background, from teens to seniors, come together to share the joy of music making with one another, and with their ever-increasing audiences in live performance. Every town and city should have a People’s Orchestra.

If I were summarising the whole orchestra, I would call it fun. The atmosphere and the vibe have been amazing. Every rehearsals’ been full of energy and enthusiasm. There are lots of music from films, TV shows and books. There’s something for everyone to enjoy.

It was absolutely brilliant! It has taken me 51 years but I have finally sung on stage!

The People’s Orchestra brings people from all walks of life together, helps them hone their skills, not just in a musical aspect, but in a way that develops you as a person.

Inclusive. Everyone really cares about music in the orchestra.

Great friends I have made & the music we all sing together is such an amazing sound. I loved every single minute. Can we do it again next week?

I joined TPO 10 years ago to play Star Wars, and today, I get to be Princess Leia.
