Yes. Your first two rehearsals are free.

You can meet the group, experience a rehearsal and decide whether it feels right for you before subscribing. There is no payment required for your first two rehearsals and no obligation to continue afterwards.

Your subscription supports regular rehearsals with professional musical leadership, alongside opportunities to get involved in the wider TPO community.

Depending on your group, this can include:

• Regular rehearsals led by professional musical leaders.
• Live musical support during rehearsals.
• Opportunities to take part in local concerts, major performances and special projects.
• Access to music and digital resources to support your learning.
• Workshops, courses and wider activities across The People’s Orchestra.
• Opportunities to join tours and international experiences where available.

The People’s Orchestra and The People’s Show Choir each provide 36 rehearsals a year—usually 12 per term, with half-term breaks built in.

The People’s Big Band provides 18 rehearsals a year—usually 6 per term, with half-term breaks built in.

Rehearsals are led by professional musical leaders, supported by live music where relevant.

They are there at every rehearsal to help members develop their skills, enjoy the music and feel welcome—whether they are returning after a break, building confidence or trying something new.

No. TPO does not charge an additional participation fee when you choose to take part in TPO performances or recordings.

You may still need to cover personal costs connected with attending or performing, such as travel and any required concert-performance clothing. Any separately charged optional costs—such as travel, accommodation, tours or particular special projects—will be made clear before you decide whether to take part.

No. Performing is always optional.

You can enjoy rehearsing, developing your skills and being part of the community without ever taking the stage. If you would like to perform, opportunities may include local events, festivals, major concerts, tours and special projects.

Many members feel nervous about performing at first. You can take things at your own pace, and there is no expectation that you perform before you feel ready.

Members can access support from a professional performance mentor at massed events, who can guide and encourage you step by step as you build confidence for big performances.

Yes. You can attend rehearsals at other locations across the network where this is suitable and local arrangements allow.

People’s Show Choir members can attend other Show Choir locations, giving you flexibility if you are travelling, cannot attend your usual rehearsal or would like to sing with another group.

Orchestra and Big Band members may also be able to attend other suitable rehearsals or activities, depending on their instrument, musical experience, capacity and local arrangements.
