James Quinn

Accompanist to The People's Show Choir Cheltenham

James has been playing piano for as long as he can remember! A few years after leaving school he went on to read Music at Bath Spa University, where he obtained both his Bachelor and Master of Music in Performance Degrees. He followed that up later with obtaining his ARSM Diploma. After finishing his studies, he returned to Gloucester where he has built a busy freelance career as a pianist, accompanist and piano teacher.

He has been the accompanist for the Churchdown Male Voice Choir since 2012 and later became the accompanist for the Innsworth Military Wives Choir, shortly after the choir was formed. He has also worked as a rehearsal pianist for a local amateur dramatic society, the Cotswold Savoyards for several productions ranging from HMS Pinafore to The Sound of Music, My Fair Lady and Oliver!

He is also an accompanist for both ABRSM and Trinity exams and is one of the small team of registered accompanists for the Cheltenham Festival of Performing Arts for a wide range of both instrumentalists and singers.

As if playing the piano around in Gloucestershire wasn’t enough, James continues to be a regular participant at the annual Chetham's International Piano Summer School in Manchester. He has been very fortunate to have studied with a number of renowned international concert pianists including Steven Osborne and Peter Donohoe CBE.

James also plays the organ at two Anglican churches in the Gloucester area and has had the opportunity to have played on the organs of Tewkesbury Abbey and Gloucester Cathedral as well at many other churches for a number of concerts.

Recently he has branched out and become the creator of his own successful podcast, “Relaxing Piano Playlist” which has achieved well over 100,000 downloads around the world to date since its launch in 2021.
