Who?

Our Central Birmingham Choir Leader is Neavan Lobban.

Neavan Lobban is the principal conductor of The People’s Orchestra and conductor of The People’s Show Choir: Birmingham Central.

Born in Inverness, Scotland, Neavan was first educated at the Music School of Douglas Academy in Glasgow. During this time he learned from conductor Holly Mathieson as part of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra’s “Takeover” event, which climaxed with a performance by the RSNO conducted by Neavan.

Neavan then went on to study at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire as a saxophonist. While at the conservatoire Neavan conducted the Saxophone Ensemble and produced a recording of the piece ‘Shining City’ by Jacob Ter Veldhuis, the first ever produced. Neavan also briefly learned from conductor Dan Rosina. While at RBC, Neavan performed with the Chamber Choir, Chorus and Camerata choir.

Neavan is also currently a member of the CBSO Chorus – conducted by Simon Halsey CBE – and the National Youth Choir of Scotland – conducted by Neavan’s most recent teacher Christopher Bell. With these groups alone he has performed in Germany, France, Monaco and the United States.
