The People's Show Choirs
When you arrive, you will be greeted by a member of The People’s Show Choir team, who will be wearing a clearly labelled t-shirt. They will ensure that you have registered for the ‘Free Taster’ session, give you your sheet music for the session and aid in answering any questions you may have.
Rehearsals run for two hours; 70 minutes rehearsal, followed by a 20 minute break (where we provide tea, coffee and best of all, biscuits!), and then a final 30 minute rehearsal.
We start every rehearsal with a group warm up, so to ensure you get the best out of this, it is important to make sure that you arrive at rehearsals on time.
We pride ourselves on establishing a diverse array of repertoire for our choirs, as well as making every rehearsal inclusive. Whether you have been singing for years or this is your first time in a choir, fear not! We will make sure that you are comfortable and happy in everything that we are doing.
You will not be asked to audition to join the choir and you do not need to be able to read sheet music! Please do not be alarmed if we hand you a music score and you have no experience – we will help you with this – we just like to make sure that everyone is reading from the same page, literally!
We welcome members ages 9 and up. Ages 9-13 will need to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian for all rehearsals, and ages 14-18 will be able to attend without supervision after their first rehearsal, where we will ask for written consent. Please see our T&C’s for further details.
Should you there be an emergency on the day, if you’re lost, or if you generally need advice or help, please do call us and let us know: 07786 629531.
We rehearse on a weekly basis and a thorough outline of our term dates can be found on the website. If, in the rare event we must cancel a rehearsal on a ‘last-minute’ or emergency basis, we will endeavour to give you as much notice as we possibly can.
You will receive weekly emails from our office team, with details of anything you need to know about the upcoming rehearsal. Should we not have any urgent information to send out, the email will act as a reminder. Please make sure you do read these emails, as they are our primary source of contact with you.
When you have signed up as a paying member, you will gain access to our Member’s Portal. Here, you will be able to use a variety of resources, designed by us to specifically aid you in your vocal journey with The People’s Show Choir. We will provide you videos containing backing tracks, lyrics, individual parts/sectionals, movement routines and much more!
From January 2021 we will be running a TPSC Ambassador Program, where you can benefit from bringing new members to the choir. If this is something that you are interested in, you will be able to access further information once you have signed up as a paying member.
Since you're here...
… we have a small favour to ask. More people than ever are being helped back into work thanks to our players, and our outreach work is helping more and more people in our community, but this year has been the most difficult ever to raise the grant funding we need to keep going. Fears over Brexit hasn’t help and we really don’t want to increase ticket prices – we want to make our concerts open to all, including the most disadvantaged in our community. So, you can see why we need to ask for your help. The People’s Orchestra is a charity. We play great music but importantly we help loads of people back into work, 900+ to date. Our staff help students gain great marks for university projects too. We are not influenced by billionaire owners, politicians or shareholders. We’re volunteer led, inclusive and diverse. And this gives us the power to yes to all sorts of community causes. It lets us challenge the norm - and prove a point. Being different works. And at a time when music teaching in schools is declining and funding for school orchestras is at an all-time low, we need to expand to fill the gaps and support those who need us, it’s what sets us apart from so many others. The People’s Orchestra long-term sustainability relies on the support that we receive directly from our followers. And we would like to thank all those who are helping to make our future secure. But we cannot stop here. As more of you offer your ongoing support, we can keep investing in quality music and community support. We can remain a strong, progressive force that is open to all. If everyone who attends our concerts, or reads our news, who likes us, also helps to support it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as £1, you can support The People’s Orchestra – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
