Commonwealth Curiosity

Making music with orchestras and choirs around the world

The third strand of this initiative is ‘Curiosity’. Orchestral groups and choirs from Commonwealth nations are invited to come to Birmingham for a week-long music festival (16th – 23rd July 2022), celebrating some of the best film and show music from across the Commonwealth.

What is Curiosity?

The festival will include a variety of professionally-led workshops ,around the theme of ‘Film Greats’ culminating in a gala concert with live streamed performances, all of which will be held just prior to the Commonwealth Games itself. These concerts and workshops will be held at various locations in Birmingham and the neighbouring areas.

Concert music will also include John Koutselinis’ ‘We Are One’ piece, along with the ‘Spirit’ bassline project.  All concerts will be streamed live and recorded for sharing across the world with family and friends at home.

Our free ticket scheme will be in place for the concerts, as 50% of our allocation for concerts will be given to care homes, residential homes, to the unemployed and those with other barriers to live concert attendance.

The festival will be held from 16th to 23rd July 2022, within the Commonwealth Games’ cultural festival. If you are interested in coming to Birmingham to perform in this festival, we need to know in advance, and this will be arranged on a case-by-case basis.
